You can download pbthal version here

Jam , Apr 12, So, I hope my post here will be able to shed some light on how the various editions sound by doing what I'm always hoping others would do: Post sound clips and charts instead of just saying "this one sounds good to me!

I downloaded two different rips of the Japanese CD, and they were both completely identical to the European CD that I have, so any perceived difference is just your imagination. It could be that I'm wrong.

If you think so, please rip "Welcome to the Jungle" from the Japanese CD and upload it so we can compare. When using Voxengo's CurveEQ, which shows the difference in EQ between two songs, this is the difference between the Japanese CD I tried both and my own European CD the orange line represents the difference between the two tracks, so no difference at all : Here's a link to download "Welcome to the Jungle" from 8 different editions, both vinyl and CD.

A big thanks to Pbthal is due, as he recorded two of the editions and put them up online. This copy was from the library and was quite beat up. The frequency response has been posted on this forum before.

Here it is: It should be said, though, that my cartridge seems to have a slightly more flat frequency response than Pbthal's. His cart seems to have a bigger spike in the upper treble, and it also tilts down a bit more in the lower treble as can be seen here, which is a comparison between his recording of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" and my own recording of the same album, same edition.

The difference can of course also be due to phono preamps mine is a NAD PP-4, which has a very flat frequency response , record wear, etc. The spike is obvious, but the downward tilt might be less obvious, but from Hz to 6 kHz it tilts 0. Pbthal's recording of the original German LP with the rape cover: The usual spike from the cart in the upper treble is present, but there's also a noticeable difference in the bass.

Board , Apr 12, Then the original CD vs. As mentioned, this copy was a beat-up copy I took out from the library, and I would imagine that the treble loss might simply be due to wear. The same difference in the bass is visible: So, while were on that edition, I think the German copy is cut from a Look at the spectograms I made in Audacity. They have a hard cut-off at 20 kHz: Pbthal's recording rape cover : Here's the spectogram of the German cross cover from the library: So, then the original US cross cover vs.

Yes, this is not the very first edition, but as far as I understand it is still from '87 or '88 or something. It also came with the cross sticker. As you can see, it's quite similar to the German cross cover, and here's the difference between the two:. Here's the difference between Pbthal's rape cover and my US cross cover. Pbthal's recording has more high frequency content so the curve on the US cross cover goes down , at least in part due to slightly different frequency response of his cart compared to mine, but there might also be another explanation for this: Here's the spectogram of my US cross cover, which has a less hard cut-off at 20 kHz, which makes me think along with the differences above that maybe this edition wasn't cut from digital but perhaps an analogue copy tape or a copy of a copy tape , but this is of course speculation.

Quite a big difference:. Then Pbthal's recording of the German rape cover vs. CD vs. Back to Black. I think I know why this is: The Back to Black was most likely remastered from the original CD - at least it seems to be cut from a As far as I understand, the vinyl edition was supposed to have been cut from the same master as the CD just hi-res rather than downsampled , and the following curve is essentially the frequency response of my cartridge, as this is also the curve that I got when doing similar measurements of my cart: Then the original CD vs.

Last post. The original US cross cover vs. Honestly, I find that the Back to Black edition is easily the one with the best bass, and it sounds powerful and rich, whereas the other editions all sound a bit too shrill to me. However, I do find that the spike in the upper treble is too much on the Back to Black edition, and cymbals and hi-hats become too piercing. I used CurveEQ to apply the difference in EQ between Pbthal's cart and my own cart onto the Back to Black edition to see if that would make the cymbals and hihats more tolerable, but I could hardly discern a difference.

Thanks for posting that run though, appreciate it. You peaked my interest in listening to the again right now. It requires some significant volume but once you get to the sweet spot this does sound very good.

Drums might sound better on my original EU. Bass is nice on the though. Board , Apr 13, TongueDruid likes this. Location: Maine. TongueDruid , Apr 13, Here is everything you need to get the Usenet up and running. This is because if you are trying to download particularly large files over the Usenet, moving hardware and have switched our back-end to a customized version of NNTmux.

Pepper is not from Dr. Some parts are unfinished, but we are working on them! Looking at all the remasters. Intro In Red Iris Era Aggression
